About Doodles

Coats

Our Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, and Australian Labradoodles come in 3 different coat types; straight, wavy, and curly. Straight and wavy are a bit easier to maintain than the curly coats (think poodle coat). However, all doodles require adequate grooming and it will be a frequent cost that puppy parents need to consider. A full groom should be scheduled every 6 weeks to maintain a mat free and fluffy/healthy coat, alongside daily brushing. In between grooms, puppy families should bathe their puppy about 1 a month to avoid drying out the coat, and brush every day to prevent matting. Every Doodle puppy owner should get a slicker brush a metal comb, and detangler spray to easily groom their pup from home in between the full groom visits.

Shedding Myth

It is a huge misconception that coat type affects the shedding of your doodle. Whether you have a straight coat, wavy coat, or curly coat, the shedding factor will not matter. What it does depend on, is the doodle’s Furnishing gene and Shedding gene. The Furnishing gene and Shedding gene both work together to determine the amount of shedding. Some Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles can end up having what we call an inconsistent coat or a flat coat, these are the doodles you see that have wispy hair and don’t look much like a fluffy doodle at all, and more like a purebred Golden Retriever or Bernese Mountain Dog. This can happen if you do not genetic test your parent dogs or if a dog has a weak Furnishing gene. It is a science to get the teddy bear doodle look, and takes many months and even years of planning in advance. We gather a full genetic panel on each Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle by swabbing their sides of their cheeks, and sending their DNA into a reputable genetic testing company. We genetic test our doodles through Embark and Paw Print Genetics so we are able to carefully pair our Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles so their puppies will have the softest hypoallergenic coats and teddy bear faces, with very little shedding.

Generations we breed

Multigenerational or Multigen is a puppy whose parents and grandparents are both Doodles. A multigenerational Goldendoodle or Bernedoodle is a puppy that has more consistent quality in their coats, appearance, temperaments and overall more predictability making this generation one of the best to choose for your family. Since the doodle parents are both either Goldendoodles or Bernedoodles you can often get a higher percentage of the Golden Retriever or Bernese Mountain Dog by carefully choosing the right breeding pair vs other generations that are mostly poodle. If you want more of the personality of a Bernese Mountain dog or Golden Retriever with the most hypoallergenic and little to non shedding coat, then the multigenerational Doodles are the perfect fit for you.

F1B

F1b is a First generation doodle bred back to a Poodle (the b stands for backcross ). The F1b is a cross between an F1 Doodle x Poodle (F1 is 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever or another pure bred breed). When an F1 (50/50) Doodle is bred to a Poodle it becomes an F1b. This generation doodle is mostly poodle 75% and 25% either Goldendoodle or Bernedoodle. F1b is a great choice for allergy suffers and those with asthma wanting a very hypoallergenic doodle with little to non shedding. We don’t breed these often as we have more families wanting a multigeneration Goldendoodle, Bernedoodle,or Australian Labradoodle but some families prefer more poodle and their fleecier coats. Personally we love the F1b generation, they are very smart and easy to train and have wonderful temperaments, they make a fantastic family dog.
