Hi! A little about me, I’m Katie, owner and founder of Colby Trail Doodles. I was born and raised in West Hills, California, and have a family of 4. My husband and I have 2 sweet daughters, 6 and 3 years old and I’m a stay at home mom. My happiest times are spent with my family enjoying the outdoors, traveling, relaxing at the beach, snowboarding during winter, and playing with my animals. Growing up I always had a passion for animals, my childhood dream was to be a veterinarian. I worked at Petsmart as my first job and I literally brought home all the neglected and helpless animals that customers would drop off at the store. I rescued them all. I’m pretty sure my parents wanted to kill me, but my mom understood because she also had a passion for animals and that desire to help. It’s in our blood. We are the people that pull over on the side of the road and stop traffic to save ducks, cats, dogs, etc. I used to volunteer at an animal shelter in the valley as well. I’ve always been surrounded by a zoo, dogs, cats, bunnies, hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas, you name it, I probably had it.
Dogs have a way of healing hearts, and there is nothing like the intuitiveness and their gentle nature. They just KNOW how to make you feel better. After my dog Charlie died, I realized my true calling, and that was to bring life into this world, better the breed, and give families an opportunity to fulfill their lives with the love of a doodle. We didn’t know Charlie’s medical history when we got her, another reason to check health and genetics form a breeder, and she died suddenly from a ruptured mass on her spleen at 6 years old. It was so traumatic for our whole family, she was taken way too soon. Several months went by but our home was missing a family dog… we searched and searched for a puppy, until a light bulb went off. I realized I had so much in common with some of these amazing breeders and shared similar backgrounds and passions, of loving and caring for animals. My whole life I felt like I was chasing after something to fulfill my heart and I never achieved that. I have toggled between several jobs and hobbies never finding my niche or my way. I needed something that would ignite my passion, be fulfilling and rewarding, something that would bring me joy. One thing that has remained constant in my life is animals and the love and appreciation of dogs. Finally, I have found myself, and I get to do what I love, alongside teaching my kids responsibility, and kindness for animals. I found a huge supportive community through many breeding programs which all have brought something different to the table. I love learning as much as I can, to better my Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle pups and our parent dogs by honoring them and constantly being present in ongoing education. Both the Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle breeds are gentle, sweet, loyal, intelligent, great with kids, goofy, loving, and just the most intuitive. Making a difference in other families lives, truly is the best feeling in the world and makes this beautiful experience all worthwhile. I finally found my purpose in life, my calling if you will, and it has led me exactly where I have always dreamed to be, with my dogs and my family, mending hearts along the way, one puppy at a time.
